Natalie Petrini

Natalie Petrini is a sophomore Architectural studies major with a minor in Philosophy. She grew up just north of Pittsburgh in Mars, Pennsylvania. She completed her first year of undergraduate school at Duquesne University, after exploring other majors she decided to pursue a degree in architecture. Eventually, she found her place here within the HAAARCH community.

Wanyan Ma

Wanyan Ma is a junior majoring in History of Art and Architecture and Economics as well as minoring in Linguistics with Certificates in Asian and European Studies. She fell in love with art history in high school and has only become more enamored with it at Pitt.

Wanyan studied abroad in Cuba and Italy last year – both amazing, incredible experiences. Ask her about all the art she saw! She is also a Pittsburgher but is not very good at it.

Maria Hernandez

Maria Hernandez is a junior pursuing the B.S. degree in Architectural Studies and is minoring in Studio Arts. She originally started as a biology major taking art classes “for the soul”, but after hearing about the Architectural Studies program, she decided to investigate more. Upon  realizing that architecture was the perfect marriage of both logic and art, she decided to switch her major to Architectural Studies.

Tom Lucy

Tom Lucy is a graduating senior with a major in Architectural Studies on the Preservation Track. Growing up in the Mon Valley he became fascinated with the strong architectural character of the region and witnessed the breadth of its decay firsthand. Although he came to Pitt as a pharmacy student, he returned to his passion for architecture and urban industrial history and hasn't looked back.

Jiashun Gao

Jiashun Gao is a sophomore majoring in Architecture B.S and minoring in Studio Arts. He is also pursuing a certificate in Asian Studies. He is very interested in the history, culture, and politics of different countries and has travelled to many places to gain first-hand experience. He was born and raised in China and came to the US to receive a different type of education. He chose to study architecture because it is a perfect combination of art and science.

Harisa Martinos

Harisa Martinos is a sophomore, majoring in Architectural Studies with a certificate in Sustainability. Coming into Pitt, Harisa planned on pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, but after taking a couple of Architecture courses, she fell in love with design and the interstitial step between an initial idea and the final piece. On top of studying architecture, Harisa is a Resident Assistant and will continue working as one in the Appreciation of the Arts Living Learning Community next year!

Lisa Canavan

Lisa Canavan is a senior double majoring in Studio Arts and Art History with a minor in Museum Studies.  After working in business and raising a family, Lisa returned to college part-time to pursue a lifelong interest in the arts.  Connectivity and the natural world are themes that inspire her artwork and art historical studies.  She greatly enjoys her academic pursuits and has been twice recognized as a university scholar.  Lisa is currently interning at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh digitizing and

Erica Conner

Erica Conner is a sophomore Architectural Studies major and Studio Arts minor. While this is only her first year in the Architectural Studies program, she has made the most of it by diving head first into the content of her courses. Over the years she has traveled all around the world, sparking an interest in art and architecture; however, it wasn’t until taking Western Architecture during her freshman year that her inner architect blossomed.

Jackson Bender

Jackson Bender is a junior Majoring in History of Art and Architecture. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but moved to Pittsburgh when he was four years old. Jackson spent most of his childhood playing with LEGOs or video games with his two brothers, and often times visited Pitt’s campus with his mother, spending a lot of time in her office at the Frick Fine Arts Building, where he gained an appreciating for art history.

Katherine Bell

Katherine Bell is a senior majoring in Architectural Studies and minoring in Studio Arts. Kate originally entered Pitt undecided, but found architecture to be a good match for her mix of logic and passion for art. Raised in a military family, she tries to incorporate her travels when possible. After graduation in spring 2019, Kate plans to continue working with G Architecture & Research Collaboration in Norfolk, Virginia.
